Hungary: Mismatch priority occupations
Looking at past, current and future trends (3-4 years), a number of occupations have been identified as mismatch priority occupations for Hungary, i.e. they are either in shortage or surplus.

Shortage occupation: an occupation that is in short supply of workers, and for which the employers typically face difficulties finding a suitable candidate.

Surplus occupation: an occupation for which there are plenty of suitable workers available but low demand. The employers have no problems filling such posts.

The list below is based on an assessment of the labour market of Hungary. The occupations presented are not given any rank. All of them present high mismatch.

Shortage Occupations

  1. ICT professionals
  2. Engineers and natural science professionals
  3. Health professionals
  4. Economic and financial managers and professionals

Other possible shortage occupations

According to the job vacancies announced to the National Employment Service (PES), the shortage was the biggest in the following occupations in 2014:

  • Mechanical machinery assemblers,
  • Elementary workers not elsewhere classified;
  • Heavy truck and lorry drivers;
  • Elementary workers not elsewhere classified;
  • Shop sales assistants;
  • Cooks;
  • Freight handlers;
  • Assemblers not elsewhere classified;
  • Structural-metal preparers and erectorsToolmakers and related workers;
  • Building construction labourers.

It should be noted that the metal and engineering industries have permanently struggled with shortages for many years.

Skilled manual workers were also among the most in demand in the Hungarian labour market in 2015.
